Hersham residents Betrayed by Elmbridge Borough Council
Not to be trusted with community assets
Hersham Community Village Hall designated to provide a centre
for varied and diverse activities of Hersham Villagers in 1985,
outsourced to a commercial company with exclusive use rights,
prepared to hire one first floor room between the hours of 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM weekdays at their discretion. Two questions :- are we letting them get away with it? And Is it that easy to deprive a community of its own asset, If the answer is yes, then should it be?
Alright are you Jack? It’s not all about you, what with your generous salary, gold plated pension, protected employment status, what’s in it for us?
Hersham Village Hall Club for the Community
Under siege by Elmbridge Borough Council!
shut on health and safety reasons in 2017?
Surrey day centres shut as fire safety reassessed
It’s a Resounding no from me to :-
- Glass ceilings
- Limiting choice
- Social engineering
- Outsourcing community assets
- Enabling cherry-picking commercial interests
- Milking the public purse for commercial interests!
- Unjust Enrichment
You cannot be serious!
One of the richest areas in the country can’t finance a village hall. Not the first and it won’t be the last, Left unchallenged libraries swimming pools tennis courts anything that we collectively own they’ll try and offload.
Why When Built
Hersham Community Village Hall acquired in 1985 by Elmbridge Borough Council before they lost direction forgetting who’s paying their wages and who they are meant to represent, through a “Planning Gain” as a result of Hersham Centre development. The Hall was designated to provide a centre for varied and diverse activities of that Community at the most affordable costs possible and in “PERPETUITY”. Over the 37 years of its existence this hall has acquired “Established User Rights“, and surely in these troubling times Elmbridge is in the best position to ensure this vital community asset remains accessible to the wider community in Hersham.
Needed more than ever
Hersham density is the third highest at 3,670/km2 thats six times higher than the lowest ward and first in terms of population growth @ 1.3 % yearly, according to the local development Plan the residents of Hersham are expected to accept even higher density rates for the forseeable future. The need for this vital community asset grows year on year. 2300 additional dwellings in the last two years alone.
Many village halls were built as memorials to local people who lost their lives in the first world war and this funding is part of our national commemoration of the centenary of the armistice. Read More
